Fair Trade is a trading partnership resulting in greater equity in international trade through dialogue, transparency and respect.

Level Ground Trading Ltd. works directly with small-scale producers in order to bring their high quality products to the North American marketplace. These products include coffee, dried tropical fruit and cane sugar.

Level Ground Trading was started by four local families in 1997 in response to trade inequity and a lack of communication between producers in developing countries and North American consumers.

As a Fair Trade Organization, under the criteria of IFAT (International Fair Trade Association), Level Ground Trading promotes sustainable farming practices, honest trade and fair wages, respect for the environment, and the promotion of greater equality for all involved in the trade relationship. Level Ground exceeds internationally agreed fair prices for all its products regardless of the commodity price. These fair trade premiums are invested in the communities where the products are grown and have included school scholarships, school improvement projects, advanced credit and job creation.

Level Ground Trading products are sold at Ten Thousand Villages stores and most grocery and natural health stores on Vancouver Island, including Thrifty Foods, Lifestyle Markets, Fairway Markets, Country Grocer and Save-On-Foods. Level Ground Trading’s Coffees are known for their freshness and superior taste, these high altitude grown coffees are hand picked, sun dried and roasted in small batches in our facility in Victoria BC. Look for Café Pangoa, Café San Miguel and Café La Paz – all with recognized great flavour and incredible freshness fulfill the desire for organic, fair trade coffee.

Frutos de los Andes, naturally dried and naturally sweet tropical fruit, is imported from Colombia and has found enthusiastic Canadian customers seeking natural goodness and nutrition. No additives are used in processing or drying the tropical fruit. The four selections of dried fruit available include Pineapple, Mango, Physalis (Ground Cherry), and Fruit Melange (mix of four fruits).

Panela is Level Ground Trading’s single-stream (whole) cane sugar. Used as a sweetener in coffee and tea, it is ultimately preferred over other brown sugars and refined sugars. Its full flavour adds taste and character to baked goods. The fact that this cane sugar is single-stream, or whole, means that the molasses content remains in the sugar, in turn adding texture, flavour, colour and satisfaction.
